When a child has a critical illness or injury, parents want the best care possible. The Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital is committed to helping each patient get better by using a child-centered health care approach. The pediatric ambulance services team is an integral part of Baptist Children’s Hospital’s compassionate, dedicated medical professionals.
Baptist Children’s Hospital operates a 17,000-square-foot advanced emergency department with every aspect from the size of needles and other medical equipment to the design of the waiting room focused on the safety and comfort of every pediatric patient. The Baptist Ambulance team has the training and equipment in place to extend pediatric medical care beyond the walls of the hospital. The Baptist pediatric ambulance could be compared to a mobile emergency room bringing the medical expertise and specialized equipment necessary to transport young patients safely and comfortably to and from hospitals and specialists.
Every team member who works on the Baptist pediatric ambulance is certified in pediatric emergency medicine. Our EMTs, paramedics and nurses have extensive pediatric experience and certifications and work closely with physicians at the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital to ensure that patients have the highest level of clinical care from the moment they are placed in our ambulance until they are placed into physicians’ care.
Our advanced emergency vehicles are stocked with lifesaving medical equipment specially designed for newborns, children and adolescents. This equipment includes specialized pediatric cots for children and adolescents and critical care transport Isolette® incubators for infants with ventilators, suction apparatus, IV infusion pumps and cardiorespiratory and pulse oximetry monitors.
Ambulance pediatric transport services use comfortable and spacious vehicles that allow parents to travel in the ambulance with their children. Additionally, the Ford ambulances are equipped with solar panels that reduce the carbon footprint of the vehicles and serve as a backup energy source.
Inside the vehicle, the Baptist Ambulance pediatric transport includes tablets loaded with kid-friendly videos and games to help make the children feel more comfortable. Toys and digital games help ease what could be a stressful situation for both children and parents.
